item: #1071386
price: Sold

A large and impressive Chinese paktong tea urn of hexagonal section comprised of handled and covered teapot over firebox. The conforming cover with decorative hexagonal, paneled finial. The teapot with tea filter insert, hinged handles of divided hexagonal section and form, a raised and engraved decorative reserve on each of six sides, a shaped spout also of hexagonal section and decorative flow-key with marks (a Chinese character and the pi symbol). The firebox with decorative, lattice venting over engraved raised reserves, hinged pentagonal carrying handles of hexagonal section, decorative fasteners (in form of a crane's head) to secure the teapot, all raised on six corner ogee feet. Other metals used for firebox, base, and filter. Approximately 12" high (30.5cm) to the finial. The handles, when raised, extend beyond the finial. Condition is good. In our photographs, we simply forgot to wipe down the cover with the other pieces (the surface is consistent.) Condition is very good. A decorative nut may be missing to secure the otherwise fully functional flow-key (as it is threaded for one.) We acquired this unusual and surely rare object in trade in the mid 90's and have decorated with it since.
