item: #1115154
price: sold in Vervendi auction

Chinese transitional bronze incense burner of compressed, bombe, circular form flanked with two lion-head handles resting on the girth below the waisted rim. Raised on short, splayed, ring foot surrounding a sunken-relief apocryphal six character Xuande mark. Condition is fair. While the patina has been weathered and likely overcleaned in its past, sufficient trace patination together with natural oxidation remains to support an attractive conservation of the patina by a qualified metal specialist. Length from lion head to lion head is about 7 inches (17.78cm). Diameter of rim is about 5 3/4 inches (14.6cm). Height 2 5/8 inches (6.66cm). 17th/18th century. Acquired in the mid 90's at Shupp's Grove outdoor market in Pennsylvania and in storage since.
