A fine, Japanese lotus form negoro lacquer kobako (small box.) The lotus form bowl with typical negoro rubbing of the iron red lacquer to surface to reveal some of the black lacquer beneath. The interior a rich, deep red color. The cover with caramel colored lacquer and lacquer chrysanthemum decoration in colors suggesting bronze and tarnished silver metalwork. The finial handle also rubbed to reveal some of the black undercoat. Zohiko gold lacquer mark on the foot of the bowl. Taisho era. Good condition. Height 2 3/4 inches. Diameter 3 3/4 inches
