A Spanish or Portuguese Colonial strongly sculpted wood Santos figural group, probably depicting Saint Joseph with baby Jesus. Red, yellow, black, green, teal and skin-tone polychromed surface - distressed with time. Inlaid crystal eyes. A pleasing, classical fullness to the flexed posture of the figures despite the rugged strength of this accomplished provincial work. 18th century or earlier. Good condition for the object’s age and medium. Some expected movement of the wood and distress of the polychrome. Height, at least 14 3/4 inches
